Deborah is a shameless lifelong student, graduating from Eastern Kentucky University with a Business degree in 1976, from Kansas State with a Teaching degree in 1990 and from Regent University with a Masters of Divinity in 2007. She has served as a pastor in the Virginia Conference for 12 years, and her favorite place to be found is sitting with her dogs reading or watching the UK Wildcats play basketball. Go Big Blue!
Brian graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) with a bachelors and a masters degree in mechanical engineering. He played guitar and piano in the praise band at the Georgia Tech Wesley Foundation while in school there. He is currently working as an engineer at the shipyard, and has been playing guitar in the St. Mark's UMC praise band since Fall 2006.
Andrew has been a part of the St. Mark's music program since he responded to a call for a last minute substitute request back in 2010. He was previously the accompanist for the children's choir at FUMC Fox Hill, and has been the rehearsal and show pianist for a number of musicals at Peninsula Community Theater in Newport News as wells as the Williamsburg Players. He began his duties as choir director in addition to accompanist at St. Mark's in 2017, and during the day works for a contractor at NASA Langley Research Center.
Laura Blackmon has been the administrative assistant at St. Mark’s since February 2016. Laura got her associate’s degree in Administrative Support Technology from Thomas Nelson Community College in May 2014. She is also part-time caregiver to her youngest brother and also to her next-door neighbors’ son, both of whom have special needs. In her spare time, she enjoys crafting, reading, going to the movies and theme parks, and spending time with her three brothers and her friends.
Shari Bira is a Mother of two and an Oma (Grandma) to three. Before coming to St. Mark’s United Methodist in 2013, she worked with youth groups at a Church she attended previously. You can often find her at Kidz Nite Out. She won't tell you, but we will - she is also a very gifted artist!
