PLEDGE

  • I pledge,
  • My PRAYERS,that I may experience growth and renewal in my relationship to God and to my brothers and sisters.
  • My TIME, that I may respond to human need through study, action and reflection.
  • My GIFTS, through UNITED METHODIST WOMEN, that I may share in the global ministries of the church.

PURPOSE
The organized unit of UNITED METHODIST WOMEN shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

 

CIRCLES
The UMW is divided into small groups known as circles. The meeting times vary so that a woman can choose the best time for her. St. Mark's has four circles:

Mary Reid meets the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am in the Christian Fellowship room. The Chairperson is Monica Sprague.

Vera Hodge meets the first Monday of each month at 7:30 pm in the church parlor. If the first Monday falls on a Holiday then Vera Hodge Circle will meet the Second Monday. The Vera Hodge circle will provide babysitting during their meeting time if requested. The Chairperson is Crystal Williams.

Manie Hamilton meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm ineither member's homes or the church. The Chairperson is Geneva Gentry.

Emily Colombo meets the fourth Friday of each month at 7:00 pm at the church. The chairperson is Samantha Roberts and Childcare is provided.

The circle's do not meet during the month's of July & August. For the meetings in June and December they go out to eat.

UMW District Prayer Breakfast is Saturday March 13th at First Fox Hill UMC and will begin at 8:30 am The cost per person is $10.00 Reservations must be made and paid for before March 6th Please contact either your Circle Chair or Diane Smith, Unit Treasurer if you would like to attend. Diane will need the money, your name and if child care will be needed. The District is asking for 6 Pack Juice Boxes or Grocery Store Gift Cards in $5.00 increments from either Wal-Mart, Farm Fresh or Food Lion. These items will be going to the Wesley Community Service Center for the Bumble Bee Homework Club

UMM Patch

Missions

  • Sponsor's the Fall Rummage Sale and participates in the Spring Rummage Sale.
  • Puts together Mission Kits for UMCOR.
  • Sponsor's The Happiness Tree.The Happiness Tree is a Christmas Tree placed in the Narthex during Advent with 40 tags attached bearing the names of teenagers in Hampton, Va. Church Members are asked to please take a tag and buy a gift for the teen listed on it, wrap the gift, place the tag on it and return it to the Church so that it can be delivered to the teen in time for Christmas.
  • Makes sandwiches for Salvation Army.
  • Sponsors a Blood Drive at least once a year.
  • Collects Campbell Soup Labels and stamps.
  • Gathers school supplies for area school's.
  • Assists at H.E.L.P.
  • Encourages members to read by providing books relative to the issues that UMW is concerned with. The books are located in the Church Library.
  • Several times per year each circle fixes dinner for the United Methodist Men's meeting.

Goals for 2010

1.Gold Mission Today Unit Certificate

2. 6 Star Certificate for Mission Giving

3. Provide 70 or more mission kits for conference.

4. Have 5 Adults and 2 Children earn Reading Certificates for a total of 7

5. Increase membership by at least 4.

6. Use Prayer Calendar, Recite Purpose and have a Response Moment at all meetings.

7. Correspond with missionaries from Prayer Calendar.

8. Have Members help provide meals for the homeless.

9. Hold a rummage sale.

10. Collect soup labels, box tops and cancelled stamps.

11. Conduct a Children's Sabbath

12. Sponsor a Red Cross blood drive (Completed February 22)

13. Remember our College Students

14. Make Sandwiches for Salvation Army

15. Sponsor a Prison Ministries Angel Tree at Christmas

16. Provide Aid to a Title One school

17. Support our Members with Prayer

18. Have at least 2 Members visit the Wesley Community Service Center

19. Support H.E.L.P with food donations

20. Support Breast Cancer Awareness

21. All meetings are Green Meetings

22. 2 Members attend UM Day at General Assembly

23. Support Ferrum College

24. Have 2 Rainbow Givers*

25. Earn Social Action Certificate

26. Send 80% of Mission Funds to UMW Mission Projects

* This ia a new program of the Virginia UMW started in 2010. By giving $60.00 you can get credit for 5 Channels of giving foryour Unit. The donation is broken down as follows: $40.00 for A Special Recognition Pin to the person you choose the remaining $20.00 is divided by 4 and $5.00 each goes to a Pledge to Mission, a Gift to Mission Card (Occasion of your choice), Gift in Memory Card and a gift to World Thank Offering. Please give the funds and information about who is to receive the pin along with who and what the cards are for to the unit Treasurer along with a completed Rainbow Giver Form.
