Missionary
St. Mark's is currently supporting. Dr. Elma Jocson who is a surgeon in Nepal.

Dr. Elma Jocson is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, and is a general surgeon assigned to the Tansen Mission Hospital under the United Mission to Nepal. Tansen is a 136-bed rural hospital located 300 km. southwest of Kathmandu. Aside from her general surgery responsibilities, Dr. Jocson's scope includes obsterics/gynecology as well as some orthopaedics. She is head of the hospital's burn unit, and serves as the Foreign Medical Student Coordinator.

"Jesus didn't just preach the kingdom of God. He ministered to the sick, healing both the body and the spirit. I'd like to follow Jesus' example." Elma says of her call to mission service, "I hope to mirror God's love to people through the work I do. Here in Nepal where open evangelism is against State laws, we have the opportunity of introducing our Saviour by the way we live. We witness not only to patients but also to other hospital staff and young Nepali doctors. In Tansen hospital, we belive that 'We serve, Jesus heals'."

Dr. Jocson studied medicine at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. She completed her residency training for Family and Community Medicine at Ospital ng Maynila, and then continued general surgery at the Rizal Medical Center. Elma is a Fellow of the Philippine College of Surgeons and Fellow of the Philippine Society of General Surgeons. Before coming to serve with GBGM, she had worked in Good News Clinic and Hospital in Banaue, Ifugao.

Elma is a native of the Philippines and a member of Marikina United Methodist Church in Marikina City, the Philippines. She is the eldest daughter of Mariano Jocson and Magdalena Tiamzom. If you would like to email Dr. Jocson her email is dokelma@wlink.com.np

H.E.L.P.
H.E.L.P. (Hampton Ecumenical Lodgings and Provisions) is an interfaith agency sponsored by 50+ area congregations. H.E.L.P. offers assistance to the homeless, hungry, and those in desperate financial need. Maintains H.E.L.P. House Family Center, a shelter for homeless families, as well as transitional housing for families who move out of the shelter and A Night's Welcome winter shelter. Offers limited financial assistance in times of critical financial distress, as well as referrals to other agencies to prevent homelessness. H.E.L.P. also sponsors a Community Food Pantry and weekly Bag Lunch distribution to shut-ins and low income families serving people who are hungry and poor in Hampton.
